Frequently asked questions

1. How much does it cost?
Every company and situation is different, so we always have a conversation to understand your needs. But it’s right that you’d like an idea of cost. The average company of ten employees could have full payroll services from £55 a month. One factor is the number of employees in your organisation, but we also have to consider how complex your payroll usually is.

2. Why does it cost so much?
You probably already know that payroll is a very complex area, which requires keeping up with a great deal of detailed knowledge. Our experience, expertise, and careful attention to the law means that you’re purchasing our knowledge as well as your own reassurance – we believe that calculated per employee, the price works out to be very fair indeed.

3. What information will you need about my employees?

We go into all this in detail in our agreement, but briefly, for each employee we need their first and last name, date of birth, address, and NI number. We also need to know their bank details, as well as their working hours.

4. Will I still need to run my own payroll department?
Our complete payroll management service takes care of it all – we just need a designated person in your company who we can get to know, who we can talk to with questions or information.

5. I have taken on my first employee – what do I need to do?
It’s easy to register with HMRC as an employer at HMRC. This will create a PAYE scheme to allow the relevant deductions from your employees. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/paye/intro/register.htm

6. I would like my payroll provider to be based in the UK and provide me with person I can contact.
payroll:MS is based in Norwich. We do all our work in beautiful offices within the Union Building. All our clients have a direct dial number to reach a single point of contact. You can even come up and see us if you’re in the area.

7. Could you give me some information about my tax code please?
Tax is complex – and your personal tax code is based on a number of factors relating to your personal circumstances. Everyone is entitled to an annual tax allowance which is the amount which can be earned. We’ll be happy to explain more when we discuss your payroll management arrangements.

8. Does the cost per employee processed include everything?
We’re here to make things easy for you. The price we quote is the price you will pay – there will be no hidden costs with our payroll management.
